Carla De Lira conducts summer research

Carla De Lira of Los Angeles is spending the summer conducting research at California Lutheran University.

De Lira, a computer science major, received a $6,000 Darling Summer Research Fellowship for Applied Scientific Computing for her project titled "Measuring the Efficiency of Rapid Application Development Languages (Live Code) in Creating Cross-Platform Software." She is studying the efficiency of using Live Code to create software for multiple operating systems including desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone devices.

Based on written proposals and academic performance, a faculty committee awarded 24 fellowships to undergraduate students with funding from more than $115,000 in grants from the university. With guidance from faculty mentors, the students are conducting full-time research throughout the summer. The students will publish their results and present them at conferences.
