Jamie Morriss Honored by Peers at CLU

2012 Dec 20

Jamie Morriss of La Mesa was one of 10 California Lutheran University students chosen by their peers to participate in an ancient Swedish ceremony because they best represent the attributes of a Christian martyr.

Morriss, a senior psychology major, was Sankta Lucia during the Sankta Lucia Festival on Dec. 6 in Samuelson Chapel.

Undergraduate students select five female and five male representatives whose depth of character and faith make them leaders in the CLU community to participate in the service. One of CLU's oldest traditions, the festival pays homage to the martyr who died at the stake on Dec. 13, 304 A.D. Members of Lucia's court light the candles in her crown during the ceremony.

CLU is a selective university located in Thousand Oaks, Calif. With an enrollment of 4,200 students, CLU offers undergraduate and graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Management and Graduate School of Education. Members of the CLU student body come from across the nation and around the world and represent a diversity of faiths and cultures. For more information, visit http://www.callutheran.edu.
