Kevin Kunes honored by peers at Cal Lutheran

2015 Dec 10

Kevin Kunes of Ventura was one of 10 California Lutheran University students chosen by their peers to participate in an ancient Swedish ceremony because they best represent the attributes of a Christian martyr.

Kunes, a communication and multimedia major, was a member of the court representing the senior class during the Sankta Lucia Festival on Dec. 10 in Samuelson Chapel.

Undergraduate students select five female and five male representatives whose depth of character and faith make them leaders in the Cal Lutheran community to participate in the service. One of the university's oldest traditions, the festival pays homage to the martyr who died at the stake on Dec. 13, 304 A.D. Members of Lucia's court light the candles in her crown during the ceremony.
